BEAVERTON, OR (January 24, 2008) – From Jan. 17-19, golf professionals and retailers were able to see the latest and greatest in new golf equipment at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. Now, consumers across the country will be able to see and demo the new SasQuatch (SQ) SUMO drivers from Nike Golf.
Golf retailers and facilities across the United States will be hosting special SUMO Saturday events on Feb. 2. This is the first day that Nike Golf's new SQ SUMO 5000 and SQ SUMO(2) 5900 drivers are available in stores. The SQ SUMO 5000 features a traditional rounded club head design providing golfers with added distance while allowing them to shape their shots more. The SQ SUMO(2) 5900 is the next generation of square head drivers that result in longer, straighter shots.
"Our new SQ SUMO drivers represent the most advanced technology in golf equipment and golfers are going to love how they look, feel and, most important, perform," said Stan Grissinger, Category Business Director of Club and Balls for Nike Golf. "With the SQ SUMO(2) 5900, we have ensured that square is here to stay. Since our introduction of the first SQ SUMO driver last year, we have added square technology to an entire family of products: drivers, irons, fairway woods and hybrids."
Named SUMO for the SUPER MOMENT of Inertia created by Nike Golf's geometric designs, the SQ SUMO drivers have the highest MOI (Moment of Inertia) in golf. Nike Golf has evolved the leading innovation of geometric design to bring golfers even more distance, forgiveness and accuracy through new record levels of MOI. These products have proven successful at the highest levels of golf with seven PGA TOUR wins on the PGA TOUR in the past 12 months.
