The Taylormade R9 driver, is to replace the Taylormade R7, one of golf's most iconic drivers in 2009 we can reveal.

The new TaylorMade R9 will be fully adjustable, for the first time ever, and will combine three moveable weights with a new Taylormade technology, called Flight Control Technology.

That may sound like marketing mumbo jumbo, but what it means to you and I is that, unlike its predecessor, the Taylormade R7, the Taylormade R9 golf driver will have a face adjustable by loft and face angle.

The R9 follows other driver manufacturers in making the club head adjustable into eight different positions using a wrench so you can promote a draw or fade, depending on your natural shot shape.

There will still be three moveable weights just as in the Taylormade r7 Limited and the head size is similar in size to the Taylormade r7 SuperQuad but not as large as the cheaper Taylormade Burner.

The stock shaft will be a brand new model from Fujikura's Tour brand, called Motore, although lots of other shafts will be available at the custom fit stage.

According to Taylormade the R9 is 'the best driver' they've ever produced. The jury is still out on that one right now as we have yet to hit it but expect to see an exclusive first hit video of the new Taylormade R9 driver ery shortly right here on www.todaysgolfer.co.uk.

Expect to see the new R9 driver in the shops this March with pricing to be confirmed, although it will be on sale in the USA for $399.

Asia Wins First Royal Trophy - ESPN.com

BANGKOK, Thailand -- Asia clinched its first Royal Trophy match play tournament against Europe on Sunday, winning three of eight singles matches and halving another for a 10-6 victory. Europe could not make up for Asia's dominance in foursomes and fourball, and Asia earned a convincing win after losses in 2006 and 2007.

"For Asia to beat Europe, we can show something to the golfing world as we are always No. 3 behind America and Europe," South Korea's S.K. Ho said. "Now that we've beaten Europe, it's time for us to move up." Europe captain Jose Maria Olazabal -- widely regarded as auditioning for the same role in the Ryder Cup -- said the visitors must "learn their lesson from this week".
"The Asian team have raised the bar and we are going to have to come back angrier and more determined if possible to really beat these guys," he said.

The Europe players partly blamed their defeat on lack of match practice following the offseason.
"That's what we have to be prepared to face when we come up against Asia rusty," Denmark's Soren Hansen said. "We have to be ready and prepared, that's the way it is now." England's Nick Dougherty said Olazabal, who replaced Seve Ballesteros while he recovers from surgery on a brain tumor, should not be blamed for the defeat.

"I feel really sorry for Olly because he has done a great job, phenomenal," Dougherty said. "He is going to be a very worthy Ryder Cup captain one day. Asia captain Naomichi "Joe" Ozaki received the obligatory dousing in a course lake to celebrate the victory, and said the victory helped compensate for the one-sided defeat he suffered as captain in 2007.
"Asia lost the first two matches and I really wanted to win this time," he said.

Europe, trailing 6½ to 1½ entering Sunday's singles, needed a strong start and Scotland's Paul Lawrie delivered an early win when he beat China's WC Liang 3 and 2. However Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng beat Spain's Pablo Larrazabal 5 and 4 in a testy encounter in which the pair argued over an out-of-bounds call on the 11th. Japan's Toru Taniguchi then thrashed Sweden's Niclas Fasth 7 and 6 to clinch the trophy for Asia.

Golf in Thailand With Golfasian

Golf Shop Thailand recently sent a group of 30 avid golfers from the USA on a golf holiday around Thailand with Thailand's largest golf tour operator, Golfasian.com. As we had a number of emails after their tour thanking us, or rather Golfasian.com for the great time and great golf they all enjoyed, thought we'd give them a mention here. Some of the comments that came back were:

"Thanks to you and Golfasian for the best golf holiday I've ever had, I'm coming back to Thailand with my wife in 3 months!"

"I never knew golf in Thailand was so good, the caddies were amazing and everything was well organized. I'm definitely coming back with some mates and will be sure to use Golfasian's tour services"

"Really appreciate the way you looked after me when I was sick. It was nice to have a local accompany me to the hospital and can see why Golfasian has so many customers. I will be recommending Golfasian.com to all my clients, friends and customers if they ever plan on coming to Thailand to play golf"

With comments like these, we're happy we chose Golfasian.com to arrange this group golf tour around Thailand and recommend all visitors to Thailand wanting to play golf to book their golf, hotels and transfers with Golfasian.com.

Golf Shop Thailand currently also has a group in Vietnam golfing and we'll give you a report on that in the next few days.
